On april 1st 2016, Jayden Alvarez a 9th grade freshmen at bowie high school received the honorable student of the month award from bowie administration. Jayden said "A lot of other students were close to getting the award but i really think i put in all the work and a little extra i needed to to win." This is the first time in a very long time that any freshmen has received the student of the month award, with upperclassmen usually receiving the award, since the schools opening in 1988 there has only been one other freshmen to receive student of the month award Who was quoted in saying " I am the best, I am the greatest, bow down before me." This award was started as a friendly competition between students and an incentive for students to get good grades. While some students take this award and the the competition along with it extremely seriously going as far as to even sabotage classmates, while other students don't have any interest at all. The principal Stephen Kane Thinks this award a great idea and is thinking about implementing a better incentive fro students to strive to get it "Grades are the most important thing at bowie, Grades should always come first so starting soon there will be a large reward for the winner and runner ups of the award". Having this award and new incentive makes bowie very special considering that no other A.I.S.D school participates in anything quite like this. A former teacher from Westlake who know works at bowie had this to say "I think the idea is great i had never heard of it before and had no clue bowie was even doing it i think it does and with the reward will increase students overall grades." Average students grades at bowie compared to other schools is a ten point difference in bowies favor. Many students hope to get the award as an extra filler on college application As student Jayden alvarez said "I think it will look really good on a college application and it might get me a better of getting into the college of my choice." Jayden is very proud of his accomplishment and draws a lot of his inspiration from his father Andrew Alvarez who was extremely proud of his son saying "Jayden Works real hard and i hope that he becomes a great and strong smart man one day."
